The pinout for the 1.6 EGR is below, though this is from a Focus wiring diagram. But I think the valve will be the same. If I could not clean or repair it, I would buy the cheapest one I could get, off eBay. If it did'nt work, you should get a refund. No point in wasting cash on an annoying and not very essential bit of kit.
The EGR valve recirculates exhaust gases, complete with all the soot left over from the combustion. This builds up a residue in the manifold and EGR valve itself and gets in the oil . The sooty-oil clogs up the Turbo oil feed and pickup pipe which in turn starves the turbo of lubricant and when that fails, as a result, the whole thing gets well
Is it best to go for a 1.6 petrol one than keeping the tdci until problems start arising, already Ive had to replace the fuel pump which had a broken seal and now Ive noticed the water is also dripping around the same area just further below the fuel pump from a silver metal pipe junction.

I know on the MK3 the EGR is self cleaning and seems to have less issues, but assume with regular short journeys will
Very interesting, tried removing and cleaning the egr valve myself on my 2.0 TDCI 140 but couldn't manage to get it off. Funnily enough now I find my car feels a bit lumpy while driving and seems to have a slight hesitation between 1000 and 2000rpm sometimes so I brought it to a Ford garage today (as it's still under warranty) and they think the egr valve needs replacing.

I've looked around on the Internet and can't find one. Even if its just a photo of it and the bolts that hold it on.
